Mitchell Shivers serves as a Senior Strategic Advisor to Nichols Law, where he advises the firm on corporate finance, national security, defense, international affairs, and leadership matters. He served as Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian & Pacific Security Affairs, and, concurrently, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (Policy) at the Pentagon. Earlier, Mitch was a Senior Advisor for Economics and Finance to the U. S. Department of State for a one-year period, during war, at U.S. Embassy, Kabul. An international investment banker by profession, Mr. Shivers retired from Merrill Lynch as Managing Director and Global Head of Public Credit Origination after a distinguished 30-year career in global finance.
Mr. Shivers has held senior leadership positions in both the public and private sectors, including senior roles in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (Policy) and the Department of State. In addition to his government service, he spent more than 30 years in international banking and finance, holding senior management positions in New York, London, Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong, Chicago, and Jakarta with Merrill Lynch and two British merchant banks, Samuel Montagu and Kleinwort Benson.
He served as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps and is a combat veteran of Vietnam.
